Qualitative Interviewers Wanted for Hep B Study

The Qualitative Interviewers will be working on a National Cancer Institute funded study, Statewide Communication to Reach Diverse Low-Income Women. The purpose of the study is to identify Asian women who may be at risk of Hepatitis B, and to provide them with information about the disease as well as referrals for screening and vaccination. Study participants will be Asian women who have called the toll-free California State telephone service Every Woman Counts and been recruited for our study. Interviewers will be matched by ethnicity and language to study participants (Vietnamese, Chinese-Cantonese or Mandarin) for telephone interviews. The purpose of the interviews is to assess the experience of participants with our telephone counseling intervention, their understanding of the information we have provided them, and to explore their reasons for participating in research.

Specific Tasks:

  • Participate in half-day training session.
  • Conduct 12 qualitative telephone interviews in Cantonese and/or Mandarin using a semi-structured instrument
  • Manage digital recording equipment
  • Keep detailed call record and interview record forms.
  • Write up brief summaries after each interview.

Requirements: BA or BS; Preferred: Master’s level MPH, MSW or Master’s in related Social Science discipline. Experience and/or training in qualitative research methods. Please contact Dr. Galen Joseph at <gjoseph@cc.ucsf.edu> for more information.
